The Kinds of Breakthroughs That Are Needed

I have worked in the eLearning field for 10 years in both corporate and academic settings, and have seen it all: the good, the bad and the ugly.

Whenever I come across people or organizations that are struggling with eLearning, it usually comes down to the fact that they haven't made one or all of the following breakthroughs:

- breakthrough from being reactive to being strategic in positioning eLearning as means of helping achieve key organizational goals

- breakthrough from static content dumps to models of active and engaging learning

- breakthrough from low level evaluations of satisfaction and learning to measure real impacts on performance and organizational results

- breakthrough from seeing training as an event to making it part of everyone's day via embedded training support, learning communities, instant access to required knowledge, etc.

- breakthrough from seeing eLearning as a technology issue to focus first on performance improvement and organizational results, then look at which technologies will help get you there

So I hope that this blog can be an ongoing conversation about ways that people are making breakthoughs in eLearning. I will post some of my observations and experiences and I hope others will do the same.
